From 10am-6pm, the first annual (hmm..) Firefly Festival is occurring at the Happy Hiker. Come out and join in the festivities. The festival will raise money for the continued research of plant and animal life in the Biosphere Preserve also known as the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The research is conducted by a few DLIA employees and many volunteers.
Fireflies, you say? What? Now is the peak season for the mating of the synchronous fireflies in our National Park. It occurs once a year and we are one of a couple of locations this happens. Yes, they all light up their butts at the same time!
